There are plenty of Hadiths (narrations from the Prophet S.A.W, the Companions or the Followers) which narrate to us the greatness of Zamzam water.1) Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: “Zamzam water is for whatever it is drunk for.” Narrated by Ibn Majah.This Hadith shows that whatever intention or dua you make when drinking Zamzam, then verily Allah S.W.T. will fulfill it.2) Ibn ʿAbbās (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “The best water on the face of the earth is Zamzam water; in it is food that satisfies and a cure for illness.” Narrated by At-Tabrani3) Abū Jamrah al-Ḍubāʿī reported: I used to sit with Ibn ʿAbbās in Makkah, and fever took hold of me. He said: “Cool it off from yourself with Zamzam water, for indeed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ‘Fever is from the heat of Hell, so cool it with Zamzam water.’” Narrated by Al-Bukhari
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا وَرِزْقًا وَاسِعًا وَشِفَاءً مِنْ كُلِّ دَاءٍ
Allahummah Inni Asaluka Ilman Naafian, Wa Rizqan Waasia'n,
Wa Shifaan Min Kulli Daa'
O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, abundant provision,
and healing from every illness.
Some of the etiquette/adab of drinking Zamzam:
- Facing the Qiblah while drinking
- Say Bismillah
- Breathe three times while drinking (i.e. do not drink it in one go)
- Drink until you are full as the Prophet S.A.W has said, "The sign between us and the hypocrites is that they do not drink their fill from Zamzam."
- Say Alhamdulillah after drinking.
